OK, I'm a hardcore Doctor Who fan, but Series 3 was a bit disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a good idea to buy the sale I Love Lucy collection set, but some of the stories will definitely dissappoint. The filming itself was brilliant and most of the stories, especially Lie to Me season 1-2 complete BLINK and UTOPIA, deliver a smashing punch. The Dalek stories, in contrast, are especially disappointing.Also, 2Entertain changed the commentary on episode 13. If you look at their booklet versus what is on, you'll see. When a friend asked what happened, their response The Closer 1-5 series boxset was: "Unfortunately, though we make every effort to offer identical content in our Doctor Who releases to every territory, the original commentary track for Series 3, Episode 13 featuring David Tennant, Freema Agyeman and John Barrowman could not be cleared for the North American DVD. We acknowledge that the booklet accompanying it has the incorrect credits and they should read Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner and Phil Collinson. The booklet will be corrected as soon as possible." We've speculated that this happneed Lost the complete season 1-6 because someone was humming the banjo song from DELIVERANCE or Frasier series 1-11 complete because someone indirectly referred to President Bush as an idiot and 2Entertain needed to censor that. Setting aside one's personal preferences between the companion from the first two series and this one, Series 3 was plagued by one major clunker of a two-parter, and a Ugly Betty complete seasons 1-3 few other episodes that were markedly weaker than anything from last year (save 'Love and Monsters'. That would knock this down to a 3-star rating, but the extras this year are better organized, include trailers (unlike last year's release), and offer a few fun bonuses. That kicks it up to a 4-star rating. However...The important caveat: the R1 DVDs have a different commentary track for 'Last of the Time Lords' from the R2 DVDs. The R1 DVDs contain the same commentary heard as a podcast at the airing of the episode. The R2 DVDs contain a newly-recorded commentary by David Tennant, John Barrowman, and Freema Agyeman.2entertain has claimed this is due to music rights issues (on a commentary?), and does not appear willing to undertake steps to correct the mistake, other than to make sure any printed materials refer to the parties actually involved in the commentary that appears on the R1 set.
When I first began watching the new series of "Doctor Who" I thought it couldn't get better than the older versions. I'm glad I was wrong. Then when I started getting used to Christopher Eccleston's Doctor, as well as the whiny Rose, by the end of the first season they have him regenerating. I liked Christopher very much as the ninth doctor and didn't think anyone else could do as well a job as he did. Then David Tennant entered as the tenth. David is delightful witty, fun, and insane at times. And I must admit that I'm glad Rose Tyler is 'gone'. Her replacement - Martha is better suited. Something like a Rome series seasons modern day "Romana". I just hope, if the Doctor DOES regenerate again, that they realize he can only do so two more Star Trek Voyager collection dvd times. After The Office box set 1-6 dvd the twelfth regeneration he dies, for good this time. I haven't purchased this third series - yet. But I intend to. I Criminal Minds boxset have seen the first few episodes of this season though, and what I've seen so far I have greatly enjoyed.
